Nicki Minaj & French Montana Sample Sly’s (Jamaican dynamic duo Sly and Robbie) “Murder She Wrote” Rhythm.

More international celebs continue to cash in on brand Jamaica.

Rapper French Montana and Nicki Minaj are the latest to capitalize on the Jamaican dialect and music. In a new collab dubbed Freak which features the two, Sly and Robbie’s “Murder She Wrote” rhythm made popular by Chaka Demus and Pliers in 90’s is being sampled.

During the making of the video for the song Freak, Nickki Minaji is being advised by French Montana to call out some Jamaicans in an effort to sound hardcore.

The track features Nicki spitting the lyrics using the Jamaica tongue “freak, some gal a freak a di week” before uttering the lines “sum a sehh dem a gully, sum a sehh dem a gaza” in another verse.

Both French Montana and Nicki Minaj mimic the delivery by Chaka Demus and Pliers on the 1994 single, Murder She Wrote.

But veteran producer Sly of the dynamic duo Sly and Robbie and one of the creators of the rhythm tells Music News that it is good for the industry that they are into reggae music.

Since the beginning of the year, brand Jamaica have been getting a lot of international attention some flattering and others of a more controversial or disrespectful nature.
